The flow and reflection of the studies on

high Buddhist monks in the modern and
contemporary Korea

The modern and contemporary Korean Buddhism is
intertwined with Korean history. Buddhism during this
period witnessed and experienced the Japanese colonialism,

Korean Independence, and Korean War. Korean Buddhism has

undergone the influence of Japanese Buddhism as well as the
liquidation of pro-Japanese remnants, and Korean Buddhist
reform since then. The turmoil and reform of traditional era

left many tasks for Korean Buddhist intellects to look ahead for

Korean Buddhism ready for the future in terms of modernity.
The study of modern and contemporary Korean Buddhist history
in centered around finding Buddhist value out of such historical

experience.

As a start, we can unfold stories from his Buddhist monks
who were active in those days together with their temples
