Kang, kyoung-koo
Professor of Dongeui Univ.
Effectively expresses Master Sungchol҆s idea of sŏn has been
summarized at The best way to Sŏn(선문정로). This paper deals
with three major aspects of Sungchol҆s idea of sŏn. These are
the theory of sudden awakening complete awakening, the
theory of practical meditation and practical awakening, and
the theory of ultimate indifference. The theory of sudden
awakening complete awakening emphasized that there is no
difference between the awakening of Sŏn and the awakening
of Buddha. The theory of practical meditation practical
awakening values at the reality, immediacy, and presentness
of meditation and of awakening. The theory of ultimate
indifference insists that it is true indifference only if it
completely breaks down the ignorance as well as ālāyavijñāna.
