Practices and Faith of Zen
Kim, Ho-gui

Studies
The faith of Zen corresponds to the beginning of
enlightenment. Therefore, faith is the beginning of practices
while faith itself is practices as well. Furthermore, faith is the
source of enlightenment, authorization and edification. In this
respect, Zen҆s faith ultimately heads to Bodhisattva҆s altruism.
The deep belief in Bodhidharma҆s preaching is a synonym for
the same clean mind between the Sentient-being and Buddha.
The deep belief is the faith of Zen. In Daihui-Zonggao҆s
Ganhwa Seon(the seon of investigating a topic of inquiry), belief is
clear. For example, it is the source of brave mind through the
topic of inquiry and the basis of continuous advance.
In addition, the belief of Hongzhi-Zhengjue҆s silence-
penetration Seon is the position where the subject(Mind) and
object(Faith) become one.
